Following the global trend for healthier lifestyles, which includes regular practice of sport activities, Madeira Tourism Board has been focusing its attention on the area of Active Tourism promoting this sector especially amongst younger people.
Currently, there are about 120 companies offering active tourism activities, a direct indicative of the growth of this sector in recent years and thus confirming its future potential.
In general, people are increasingly concerned about health and well-being, and the current trend is to bond travel habits to sporting activities. Visitors now seek places where they can combine rest and relaxation with sports, so that their holidays are enriched with unforgettable experiences.
Madeira's natural resources, climate, landscapes and tourist experience are ideally suited for practice of all sorts of sports ranging from calmer, more relaxing programmes – like boating, hiking along the Levadas or diving - to other more radical activities like climbing, abseiling or canyoning.
On this basis, Madeira Rural - the Rural Tourism Association of the Autonomous Region of Madeira - has launched the first reservations portal for Active Tourism for Madeira Islands. This portal, in addition to providing all information regarding active tourism services (whether at sea, on land or in the air), also allows you to make reservations directly online.
