On 2-3 September the Red Bull Air Race is back to Porto

©Red Bull Air Race
Porto has hosted the Red Bull Air Race from 2007 through to 2009 and now is back again to the Red Bull Air Race World Championship calendar for 2017, taking place on the 2-3 September.

If you like competitions that test pilots' aeronautics skills don't miss the Red Bull Air Race world circuit over the River Douro. This competition consists of a slalom race - where the world's most skillful pilots manoeuvre around obstacles in flights that almost touch the ground and trace tight circles. In addition to great speed, this competition also requires minute precision and dexterity, since the smallest error can jeopardize the performance.

For those who want to follow the action closely, it's time to know the official weekend program - starting with an exciting autograph session with the pilots, late Friday afternoon (September 1st). After the doors of the airport of the Red Bull Air Race are open (situated in the Queimódromo of Porto) the fans will have the possibility to see very close the pilots, the airplanes and the teams.

On Saturday (September 2nd) the Qualifying takes place, and on Sunday, the various laps of the competition. In between, there will be many remarkable moments related to aviation and the art of flying, with the presence in the track of aerobatic squadrons, paragliding and skydiving athletes and a real parade of historical machines.

The public can follow all the action on the banks of Porto and Gaia, in vast areas of free access where giant screens will also be put up. There are also a limited number of hospitality tickets available, if you are interested please check here.

Those who do not have the opportunity to be there, can follow the event through the broadcast on the website www.redbullairrace.com and on the Portuguese TV channel SIC.

Porto elected "Best European Destination 2017"

Congratulations to Porto👍! After a three weeks’ period of online voting, Porto was elected Best European Destination 2017 and won this prestigious title for the third time (2012, 2014, and know 2017).

According to the European Destinations website
:
"Never has the choice of the winning city been so unanimous among travellers from all other the world. It is with the votes of worldwide travellers from 174 countries that Porto wins this European title again. Travellers from the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, South-Africa, South Korea, Ireland and Canada, among others,... voted Porto in the first place in this competition.

Porto is exceptional in more ways than one and the "Cidade Invicta" (unvanquished city) is history, is architecture, culture, gastronomy, trade, encounters and discoveries, will seduce you.
Porto has all the charm of towns which happily cohabit with their river. You can stroll along the River Douro in Cais da Ribeira, fly over it by helicopter or discover Porto's architecture, its amazing landscapes and magnificent bridges by taking a cruise on this majestic river. Porto is also a sea city and in the briefest of time a tram will bring you to Foz do Douro’s gentle beaches face to face with the Atlantic.

Enter the sumptuously cool Palacio da Bolsa, and walk through history with Portuguese adventurers, follow the country’s trade routes and be stunned by the treasures which they brought back. Remarkable buildings such as the Sé Catédral and its terraces offer superb viewpoints over a bustle of markets, grocery stores, bars, restaurants…"
