Madeira is Gold: Madeira Islands awarded “World´s Leading Island Destination” 2015 in the World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards annual ceremony was held last December, 12th in El Jadida, Morocco, at the Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, an event that aims to distinguish the excellence of the travel and tourism industry numerous sectors.

This prize of Madeira Islands was received by the Regional Secretary for Economy, Tourism and Culture Mr. Eduardo Jesus.

Madeira Islands was presented with the “World´sLeading Island Destination” award, in a remarkable and most memorable ceremony, after competing alongside other paradise tourist destinations such as Bali, Barbados, Crete, Cook Islands, Jamaica, Maldives, Mauritius, Saint Lucia, Sardinia, Seychelles, Sicily and Zanzibar.

‘It is an honour for Madeira Islands to accept this prize, this is a recognition of the excellent work of all professionals within this industry, who have effortlessly contributed for the continuous development of Madeira Islands as tourism destination of excellence. Our Archipelago´s main asset is its exuberant nature, and with this recognition, we are certain that, the effect of this award will be of great importance for Madeira Islands as a tourism destination,  contributing towards its continuous touristic growth. 

Mr. Eduardo Jesus finished his speech stating: ‘! Madeira is gold!'

Madeira Islands is a tourist destination with a long tradition in the tourism sector, famous not only for its natural beauty, but also for the quality standard of its services and for the art of well receiving its guests. With a percentage of about 1,140,250 guests in 2014, the archipelago of Madeira and also some of its hotel facilities have been renowned over the past few years with several awards.

These awards are motivating elements which contribute towards Madeira Islands increasing prestige and reputation.

The Algarve secures Best Value Golf hat-trick in TG poll

The Algarve, Europe’s leading golf destination, is celebrating after being awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Value Golf Destination’ in the 2015 Today’s Golfer Travel Awards.

The award, which is voted for by the readers of Today’s Golfer magazine, returns to the Algarve for the third time in four years, following previous wins in 2012 and 2013.

The picturesque region, which contains 41 courses and provides more than a million rounds to overseas golf visitors each year, saw off competition from across Europe to scoop the accolade.

A spokesperson for ATA said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised once again as Europe’s best value golf destination, particularly as the Today’s Golfer awards are voted for exclusively by golfers.

“To win the ‘Best Value’ prize also really demonstrates how highly UK golfers rate the Algarve – not only for the quality of our destination but for the great value they get whenever they visit.

“In 2015 visiting UK golfers will receive even greater value as the British Pound has strengthened almost 10% against the Euro in the past 12 months so budgets will go that bit further.

“To win three times out of the last four years is particularly pleasing and we’ll be striving to ensure that we retain the trophy next year.”

Kevin Brown, travel editor at Today’s Golfer, said: “The annual TG Travel Awards – the ‘Oscars of the golf travel industry’ – have proved a huge hit since being introduced in 2011.
“They are awards which provide a totally objective view of the best hotels, courses and regions, because it is the paying public, our readers, who decide where the titles go.

“The Algarve is a deserving winner of the ‘Best Value Golf Destination’, as reflected by the overwhelming number of people who voted for the region. Winning three years out of four is a great record, and one the Algarve should be justly proud of.”

Madeira Elected Europe´s Leading Island Destination for 2014

For the second year in a row, Madeira Islands were elected by the "World Travel Awards” organization as Europe's Leading Island Destination for 2014.
Madeira competed in this category alongside with tourist destinations such as the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Sardinia, Malta and Cyprus.
The World Travel Awards takes place annually and recognises, awards and celebrates excellence in all sectors of the tourism industry worldwide. 

Votes followed an evaluation undertaken mostly by tourism professionals and travel agents located in over 200 countries worldwide. 

Madeira Hotels should also be congratulated for winning 3 awards: Choupana Hills - Boutique Resort, The Vine - Design Hotel e Pestana Porto Santo - all inclusive Resort.
