From the 20th to the 22nd of August, in the magical scenario of the Bay of Praia Formosa in the Island of Santa Maria, the International Festival of Music " August Tide" (Maré de Agosto), brings together leading names from various countries.
A stage located only 20 metres from the sea, hosts performances by leading names from the national and international musical panorama. Every year in the month of August, Santa Maria da Feira once again becomes a medieval town, filled with knights in heavy armour, wielding long swords and taking part in jousting tournaments. Over a 10-day period, the historical centre is transformed into a major medieval fair, with the presence of merchants, artisans, blacksmiths, bakers, mule-drivers and liqueur sellers. Inside the castle, visitors may observe scenes from the daily life of the epoch and outside they may take part in the renowned festivities and savour specialty dishes from the past. In the streets, acrobats, musicians, jugglers and fire-eaters exhibit their skills, transporting visitors back in time.
